Most of us feel stressed at sometime in our lives,
however old or young they are. Things just begin to
get on top of you, you feel under pressure, worried,
upset, sad, angry or possibly all of them.
There are so many things that can make you feel like
that, school work, being teased or bullied, getting
hassled by teachers, falling out with your friends or
family, if someone close to you is ill or has died.
You are changing too physical and emotional and you
need the support of friends and family to help you through.
Mood swings, wanting to be more independent, how you
feel about your looks, the shape of your body and size
and what you think your friends think about you.
All of these things can get you down and it affects
everyone in different ways. It can affect you physically.
Your body is designed to cope with a certain amount
of stress. For example, if you are in danger or there
is an emergency your body builds it self-up to deal
with that, adrenaline and other hormones starts to pump
around you body, so that you can either fight it or
run away. But if you are feeling like that for long
periods of time that is when your body is less able
to deal with it. You can feel tired, not feel like eating,
find it difficult to get to sleep or keep getting headaches
or stomach aches.
It can also affect you mentally as well, it makes is
harder to concentrate on things, things that you used
to be able to do really easily suddenly become more
difficult, you might lose your temper more easily or
feel depressed.
The important thing to remember is that these problems
are very common and you are not alone - and there
are loads of things you can do to help.
These are just some of the ways that some young people
cope when they feel stressed
Painting
Bowling
Trips Away
Chill with Friends
Go shopping
Watch TV
Take Walk
Go Swimming

Understand and support from other people makes it much
easier to cope with stress, feeling alone can make it
harder. Friends and family can be supportive but if
they are not or you feel like you want to talk to someone
else for example your School nurse, Teacher, Counsellor,
Connexions Advisor, Anti-bullying worker to name a few.
